What is a HOA?
An HOA, or Homeowners Association, is an organization in a residential community—like a neighborhood, condominium, or townhouse complex—that makes and enforces rules for the properties and residents. When you buy a home in an HOA community, you automatically become a member and agree to follow its guidelines.
HOAs are responsible for maintaining common areas, such as landscaping, pools, gyms, or community centers, and they charge monthly or annual fees (HOA dues) to cover these costs. The HOA also sets rules for things like property appearance, noise levels, and other standards to help maintain property values and community quality. Homeowners should review the HOA rules and fees carefully, as they can impact your rights and responsibilities as a homeowner.
